Chiefly records of Thomas Wigglesworth, successor to Sawyer and Wigglesworth, dealing in importing, exporting, handling of bills of exchange and insurance, and general commission business. Volumes include blotters, 1806-1810 and 1815-1822; letter books, 1806-1816 and 1819-1823; distribution record, 1823-1835; and invoice record, 1824-1847. Earlier records, 1758-1765, relate to the firm of Townsend and Wigglesworth of which Edward Wigglesworth was a partner. Include two daybooks and one ledger.

Edward Wigglesworth (1732-1794) graduated from Harvard in 1749. In 1758 he entered into business in Boston with William Blair Townsend. Townsend and Wigglesworth was a firm specializing in the sale of imports and the commission business. Wigglesworth withdrew in 1762, turning over collection of the accounts to Deacon Thomas Hill and his son Henry Hill. Wigglesworth later became the second Hollis Professor of Divinity at Harvard. According to a manuscript note (f. 4v) Wigglesworth wrote the sermon while a professor at Harvard College.
